Beyond Board Games – The Wood Whisperer

“Beyond Board Games” is when we take a step away from our normal topic of board gaming and take a step into something else that we believe is pertinent to families.

This week on the show we have Marc Spagnuolo, The Wood Whisperer.

Marc has been doing woodworking videos (for both hobbyists and professionals) for more than 15 years at TheWoodWhisperer.com.

Marc is definitely a nerd as well as being a wood worker, even making plans for a gaming dining room table.

He publishes plans and video courses that can be bought through the Wood Whisperer Guild.

How about bringing kids into woodworking? Temper your expectations and “do tons of prep work.”

Marc’s favorite project is… whatever he’s currently working on. But the things that get used the most are the ones he appreciates the most.

Where is a good place for an adult to start woodworking? – Look for videos on woodworking that go along with your interests (cutting board or simple kitchen items for a cook, dice tray or dice tower for a gamer). “You’re building something you actually want, so you can appreciate the utility of what woodworking can do for you.”

Of course we need to ask about board games in the Spagnuolo household. The kids love Bingo, simple matching games, and Clue. Jackbox games are a great way to spend time together as a family with a “video game”. We suggest Clue: Dungeons & Dragons and Super Mega Lucky Box.
